Gooday from the Critique Club!

First impressions:
This is what I consider a very mellow shot, so the first impression was of serenity, and peace... silence. A little cherub on a bed, it's very beautiful. Belongs in an art gallery.

This is the type of photo that I consider created in an artistic style. Very renaissance, and very in the style of a painter from that genre. I am also very glad that there are no straps or anything holding those wings in place!

Technically:
I think the lighting is great, it's very soft, and fits the mood you wanted to achieve wonderfully. The focus in my opinion is a tiny bit too soft though, and makes the child look blurry in places, while at the same time other bits are pretty in focus, like the torso. I saw your attempts at the black and white, and I did in fact think it worked better, perhaps if you worked with levels to get a more "drawn" effect for the coloured version? I think that would be very cool.

Background:
Well, you know I love dark photos, and the black background for me is superb, it fits with the tone of what you wanted, and it makes the child look even more angelic.

My opinion:
I like it, I scored this photo pretty high because of the artistic merit of it. Well done!

Job well done. I thought it would place in the top 3. She certainly is an angel. Aren't they all when they're sleeping?

I barely got this uploaded before the cut off. It took me forever to get her to sleep Sunday night! After I had a chance to look through the shots and play with them in PS, I uploaded a b&w version to photosig that I like a lot more. Pictures from my camera are meant to have a little sharpening during processing, but I chose not to do it with this one because I thought the softness actually helped the quiet, angelic mood of it. I used one light with cloth in front of it. Couldn't figure out how to pose the wings without editing out a string or something so I had to balance them on her back with the back wing bent down to anchor them.

So cute, your only downfall was cropping off the child's feet

Much longer and the baby would be too old for this type of shot. My sister sent me one similar to this of her grandchild. This is beautiful. I like how the background almost swallows the child up. Beautiful shot and really nice piece of art.

Good idea. The black backround gives this good contrast. Is that a pillow or fake wings?

Well, we all feel that way about our children, don't we! You've captured this quite well. The wing prop and the lipstick are great splashes of color and contrast well with the skin tones. Nice work!

Hope the child didn't get hurt when he fell from heaven. Beautiful picture, nice composition, sleeping so peacefully, the black background fits this photograph perfectfully. It does seem that the top feathers look a bit out of focus? or are thus just ruffled a bit?
