hahaha! how very monty python!
this one caught my attention during voting--and i remember wondering why you chose to put the picture in the red flower--i was trying to picture it hidden in the center of the white flower! but who knows--maybe i am reading too much into it! :)
as far as the actual picture goes--i really cant imagine why it scored so low--except for perhaps the political commentary. i think it is hysterical--but then, like i mentioned before, i see it in a monty python sort of light, and i do have an affinity for the absurd! :)
compositionally--it is wonderful--i love the diagonal lines--although i must say that in this particular instance--i dont know if it is because of the dof, or the stems point directly into the corner---together they seem to cause a sort of vertigo! my brain knows they are lying flat--but my eyes want to tell me that they are in fact hanging upside down! does that make sense? ah well, its probably because i have stared at teh photo for so long! :)
i also really like the decision to use two contrasting shades of flowers--and the way the petals on the flowers mingle together--gives it a unified feel.
technically--the dof of field is nice (vertigo or no! hehe) and the lighting seems good. it seems that you chose a side/fill light tho, and i wonder if it could have been more enhanced by adding light to the front of the flowers as well? or maybe a similar light coming from the other side? just a thought.
all in all i think you have one of the better photos of this challenge, but then again i am drawn to the more stark and simplistic photos! very nice! :)

I sure hope he's that easy for our guys to find. Hate to hurt your flower, but hope it gets blown off the face of the earth. It's be a shame to do that to such a beautiful photo. Cute idea, beautiful flowers, nice photo. Way to go. |

Challenge met. I'm not sure whether I personally would've chosen Bin Laden, but it's certainly a name and face with notoriety and a large recognition factor. As for the photo, I like the composition with the flowers quite a lot, and the focus on the flowers is good, too, as is the DOF. I would've probably cleaned some of the leaves of the stems before placing the flowers to make the diagonal lines more simple. Your lighting is a little uneven, the white flower is a little bright in spots (although still acceptable, no real blow-out), and the red flower too dark. I wonder if adding light from the right would have evened this out a bit. I also would've used less of a frame (remove the one pixel white on the inside, and make the black thinner), but I realize frames are very much a personal taste thing. Overall, good job. :) |

I would like to see the flowers more focused and cropped just above the petals on the red flower, nice border. |

You should have hidden him in a pile of horse crap instead of in flowers. :) The flowers a very nice however. |

Technically the shallow depth of field works well. Focus is good and lighting is fairly good. Composition is nice. Why did you ruin it with a Bin Laden image? The "Where's Bin Laden" joke is old. |

Weird idea! The dark flower is really lovely, but the white one is a bit blown out. The contrast between the two is really appealing, and the green stems are lovely. Very interesting idea! |

Such a funny thing to do in what would be an otherwise serious photograph. This would have also been great in the humor challenge. |
