 Yes, the cicada is dead. She was dead when I found her.
Just to put everyone's mind at rest.

How it was done: printed some music score sheets and photographed it.
I took it into photoshop and had fun with the liquify tool. I printed the picture with the wavy music notes and photographed the cicada on it.
