There were only two calla lilies blooming at Ott's this year and they were tucked away in a back greenhouse. I tried to get as much mileage out of them as I could. Hopefully, now that Spring is coming I'll be able to get out a little more to do some shooting.

This is lovely. I really like the back view, showing new shapes and forms of the calla lily.

I'm not sure what you're referring to by the weighting of the subject. Could you explain?

You've given us a "back-side" view - contrary to the typical pov - which emphasizes the overall shape rather than the internal color and line variations.

I'm trying to decide about the weighting of the subject at the bottom of the frame. Can you comment on your intent with this decision?

Lovely abstract form and texture.

Lovely lighting and a nice study in form. For me, Edward Weston is the master of this genre. His b&w still life photography placed more emphasis on form. Color adds additional information which offers a different viewer experience. Kind of rambling here but I look forward to seeing how you approach this theme for the month.

My camera is a Canon T2i with a Sigma 10-20mm lens and I use time value (Tv) setting:

F-stop: 5.6
Exposure: 1/100 sec.
ISO:200 (vary this according to lighting cond.)

PP is fairly simple:
PhotoStudio 5.5 - cropping/sizing, minor brighten/contrast, & hue/sat. Also used to black-out background.
Photomatix Pro 6.0.3 for Finishing Touch: Contrast, highlights, lights, darks & shadows, sharpening.
Neat Image v8 - Final filtering of image.

this is simple .. and beautiful .. the structure of the flower makes it very 'touchable' ..
great on the black background ..
i'm wondering if you'd like to put your camera settings in .
i'm always interested in seeing them .. especially in an image like this .. which is something i've never done before .. :)
