Animals are so amazing. There was that comment in GI Jane: "I never saw a wild thing feel sorry for itself". I am not sure that is 100% correct, one or 2 of my dogs make a good pretense at times ;-), but animals certainly accept a situation and just get on with it.
Yes, I am sure her other senses have become more acute.
You are a wonderful person to take care of all these cats

Katie is actually grey and white which sets her apart from the others who are mostly black and white. I have quite a few cats, last count nine indoors and five outdoors. This community had a large cat population when I first moved here over 20 yrs ago and I and several others have operated a TNR (trap, neuter, return) program along with volunteers. All of my cats are neutered/spayed and that includes the outdoor cats. So there are no more kittens being born. About 7 yrs ago there were 18 kittens born here to 5 females. Since then I've worked together with one of my neighbors who has helped me finance getting the females spayed. If the cat is already pregnant it costs a lot more but it's worth it.

All the cats' boxes come from Aldi which is a German grocery store. They're free for shoppers (Aldi doesn't provide bags).

Lovely story, Jo. I'm glad that Katie is able to compensate for her lost sight. Good on you for giving her love.

i loved reading your story of katie .. who has the same name as my best mate who is sleeping here beside me while i'm at the computer .. in her own bed of course .. !! ..
that was her name when we got her at 6 weeks old . a present for my daughter . who was a closet cat person . which we only found out in the last few years .. she has two cats now .. she loved katie .. but katie is mine now ..

anyway i was interested to read about how katie gets around .. amazing really ..
my katie is nearly completely deaf . and i pray that she doesnt lose her sight too .. she has got a lot more anxious since losing her hearing .. and we communicate differently now .. we look at each other a lot .. lol .. !! ..
and i always give her a pat when i walk out of the room so she knows where i am ..
but if she lost her sight as well .. i doubt she would handle it as well as your katie ..

As the Beatles once sang... "and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make."

What a story you told. With a beautiful shot to accompany it. She's all vibration or sensing vibrations

Touching and inspirational. Reminds me to buck up and play the hand I'm dealt.
