This was taken in Rocky Mountain National Park. All over the tundra area, there are warning signs to stay off the tundra as it takes years and years for one little squashed plant to grow back in that cold desolate climate. You can get in big trouble if rangers see you taking a shortcut across the tundra. Course, what do the elk care! Park rules are stupid to them. They are going to eat the plants anyway.

Beautiful vista. I think this would have scored much higher in a different challenge. Maybe if there was a definitive trail that the elk was walking or if he was a bit larger in the scene. I get the feeling the picture is more about the landscape than the subject. Great shot! I would love to go there.

such an appealing scene .. the animal in the distance makes this .. altho its so small i cant tell if its a goat, a sheep, a bovine, a deer or something else entirely .. !! ..
love the division between the close up and the distance . the colours .
