This precious little nugget is Denzel Short - son of Aida and Columbus Short.

I got this idea during a trip to Palm Springs for Christmas, where there are field upon field of these wind turbines. I thought how much they looked like flowers, and of course, that made my mind wander into the photo idea realm.

Having just shot this image with Columbus, I had already met Denzel and he was just the right age for this concept. Columbus loved the idea, and it was just a matter of scheduling.

This image required two trips: one for the windmills and the other for Denzel. For the windmills, rgrenaderphoto and I took a field trip to Mojave, and had a splendid day, running around photographing these massive "flowers". (Don't worry - I didn't get cancer because I got my vaccines...)

Then a few days ago I went over to Columbus' house to photograph Denzel. I got about 20 shots before he'd had enough. But I'd gotten my picture!

The rest is just assembling the two images, the hardest part being masking out all those tiny windmills to make it look like he was squatting amidst them. Copied and pasted a few of them into a "bouquet" in his hand, and voila!

---

I'm so happy this resonated. Thank you all for the generous votes and kind comments.

Anita, the PS windmills were the ones that gave me the idea. These windmills are in Mojave, much closer to home :)

Wow, you nailed this on so many levels! The perspective, color, light direction, everything! And on top of that it's an outstanding composition! Well done!

On another note, I've been gone for a while and wondering what one has to do to get a 7 these days???? Seriously??

Congratulations I was wondering who̢۪s this was, That makes total sense that it̢۪s yours since you live in California. I love these wind turbines and we saw probably the exact ones when we were in Palm springs last year. Took a few photos of them myself :-) out of a moving car.

I can imagine how hard it was to place the turbines in Denzel̢۪s hands, I̢۪m sure that took awhile :-)

I love the concept and the execution. The collection in his hand is brilliant. (I hope he didn't get his feet pricked.) Top 3.

Very creative but you lose a little of the "realism" with his feet so far back but windmills of that size in his hands. 8 that could have been a 10 for me.
