Challenge: Crowdscape (ARCHIVAL) (Standard Editing*)
Collection: 2021
Location: Fort Worth TX
Date: Sep 8, 2012
Aperture: 7.1
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/1600
Date Uploaded: Apr 26, 2020

I had an opportunity to get up in a cherry picker to photograph the crowds after a color run. This is a fun run where people off to the sides throw clouds of colored cornstarch at the runners. Usually these are fundraisers for a charity.

I like the impact of this as a b/w, which I think may also serve to abstract the scene a bit and make the viewer look a little longer. Without the color, it may be harder to know what is going on here and the viewer's attention is on the crowd, not the bright colors.

Here is the color version for those that are interested:

Shot with my Canon 50D and 14-135 lens, which I no longer have, so could not select it. Maybe there's a good reason for leaving old equipment in my profile.

Congratulations on the blue and all the appreciation your image has received. Agreeing on the boost the black and white conversion confers. Really nice. Personal co-favorite of the challenge.

I love it! Both versions... but I'm an oddball and still think most color photos have more impact. Definitely worthy of award and accolades! Congratulations!

Congratulations, Steve.

Fantastic shot ~ the number of people, the filmy layer pervading the scene and, most of all, people's movement and interactions.

I like the black and white better than the color, despite it being a color run! Great shot, wonderful perspective. Congrat on the blue!

30 seconds to load .. but i really wanted to see this blue ribbon winner . it looked so interesting as a thumb ..
just magnificent full size .!! .. was worth waiting all that time ..
many congratulations on such a wonderful image .. and i loved reading the story of how you got it .. if you hadnt put all that information in i may have thought you had wings and could fly ..

btw .. if you go to your preferences you can select a lens .. and save that info ..
then it will come up as an option when selecting a lens on your photo ..
once you have done that you can then remove that lens in your preferences .. i have done that and it still shows on the pic ..
i had so many lenses and cameras it was embarrassing .. so i removed them from my profile .. !! ..:)

I thought this would be the winner as soon as I saw it. I have to tell the truth I̢۪m a real black-and-white girl, (in more ways than one) but the colour version is awesome!

congrats Steve! My photo is actually from a Holi festival, not color run, but a similar experience, I guess. I wax not above but right in the thick of it, lots of fun!

Awesome perspective. I believe this is the 'colour run', correct? I'm curious to see how it would look... in colour. hah.

I still really appreciate the desaturation and contrast of the image. Highly rated.

wow, a mass of people with little detail but somehow for me it works really well, like the black and white and the smoke, everything really

Most poignant. Amazing picture. The fine line between a nightmare happening and a joyful crowd. 10
