Challenge: Painterly Scene II (ARCHIVAL) (Standard Editing*)

I didn't expect the blue -- I didn't even think top 5 even though it was hovering around 7 for most of the week. There were so many beautiful things in this challenge!

This was part of probably my best photo shoot ever. The story can be found with this shot:

I need to practice blending ambient and strobe more, I think. I've tried it just a couple of times, and I think this series is the only time that I've really succeed.

Thanks so much for the comments.

I now have two days to frantically search for an original. I have 11 years of DPC strewn over probably 7-8 hard drives. Some of which didn't work last time I tried plugging them in. I recently purchase a new computer system that has 15 TB capacity, and I'm supposed to be trying to consolidate drives, but have been avoiding it.

I guess it's time, now!!

I started this challenge by just looking through my portfolio on here, and new I wanted to rework this photo. I wanted to try to give an old masters' type of lighting feel to it. I just grabbed an 800px file from my portfolio and started playing with it. First upsizing it so 1200px. I didn't think it would really work -- I was just experimenting. But then I started really liking where it was going, so I kept on with the file!!

I was surprised and pleased that it was doing well during voting, but still figured that I didn't really have to worry about finding the original.

So I checked about 1am last night after rollover, and I think it's the first time I ever thought "sh*t!!" when I saw a blue ribbon. :)

So I'm going to do things right. I'm not going to frantically start searching. I'm going to go drive by drive and copy things over like I should have done in the first place!

Wish me luck. There could be a DQ in the making if I can't get a couple of these hard drives to work!

I FOUND IT!!! wHOOT!

That could have been fun! I was going more for an old masters' type of feel. It's too pink for that, but I liked the soft light. :)

That's exactly the feel this gave me! I was trying to place it, since I was thinking "it's not Degas, but very familiar feel..."

I gave this a 10. It was a story worth telling and made me think of all the ballet recitals I attended to watch my daughter dance. Awesome photo.

The image alone is beautiful, then adding the soft filter takes it beyond. Congrats!

I thought this was your. I remember the series of ballerina photos you took, possibly the best photos you've ever ever taken. Congratulations on the blue. I thought this would be the one to beat.
