Homemade outdoor furniture at the old 'Venidse' (named after Venice) street. It is not mine and I don't know who owns it.

'Venidse' is one of the oldest streets in Hoorn. It is surrounded by canals and only reachable by two bridges to the Bierkade (yup, bier = beer, called that way because it was home to the breweries). Characteristic old buildings, narrow alleys, a rich history with many stories and home to the very interesting 'Museum of the 20th century' (technology and 20th century culture). The area isn't big but well worth a visit when you are in Hoorn.

First time that I shot with a prime lens on a digital camera (I have a film rangefinder with a fixed 40mm prime) and it was fun. The fixed focal length forces you to pay more attention to your composition and position. It is not like "I'll just zoom in or out a bit." Also the sharpness, contrast and color reproduction of these lenses is great. Unfortunately I had to shoot @ ISO1250, it doesn't do the lens justice.
For non-portrait street photography the 50mm is a bit too long on a DX camera. I think that a 35mm or 24mm would be better. When it is my birthday I'm going to get myself the Nikkor AF 35mm F2. :)
I hope to 'shoot' my beatiful nieces this christmass with the 50. Reminds me that I need to go to the market to get some background fabrics.

Lens used: Nikkor AF 50mm 1.4D, autofocus

Postprocessing:
Shot in NEF, exposure was good, no extreme highlights or shadows.

Nikon Capture 4.1
- Whitebalance to 7000 Kelvin
- Colormode III sRGB
- Color booster nature @ 15
- Saved as 8-bit tiff because I am not going to mess with the exposure anymore
Photoshop 6
- chroma noise reduction (standard in my workflow, was not really necessary). The exposure was good and the ISO1250 looked very clean. There was little change.
- rotated a bit with the fence as a marker
- cropped the usable image out
- decided to use a tighter crop (throw out 20%) in the 4:3 ratio
- Resample
- USM in Lab lightness mode
- Save for the web

Very colorful and bright. The cobble stones and wear on the chairs give it an old time feel. Nice job!

This picture has potential. A little too much clutter in the backround. The brick floor looks interesting. I wonder how it would look if you moved the chairs more on to the brick and took the picture from directly overhead.

Lovely colors, great llighting. The Pot does not seem to go with the color scheme. The fence and trash cans do, as does the pavement. A 7.
