Challenge: Yellow Revisited (Basic Editing II)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: My kitchen
Date: Dec 5, 2004
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/100
Galleries: Still Life, Food and Drink
Date Uploaded: Dec 5, 2004

Took this shot in my kitchen with the early morning sun as my backlight. Propped up a black book for the background and put the glass up on the window sill. No flash was used.

Editing was limited to levels, increasing overall saturation slightly, cropping and USM.

Next time I need to slice the lemon thinner so the texture shows thru. This way appears a bit out of focus.

Cute concept, nice rendition of the glass. But the lemon slice looks as though it was rather badly cut into the background. I assume it's rim lighting, not a rules violation, but it does look slightly off in what is otherwise a great shot.

...eat the lemon? :) (revisiting this photograph for comments)

Quite a motivational message here. I like the way you framed this shot. The lighting works well. Black backdrop certainly cuts out the distractions and allows the viewer to focus on the message at hand. Overall well done in my book. 7

The back lighting workds well. The enlargement of the submerged part of the lemon is also interesting. The black setting is also a plus. I would prefer this stopped down one stop. An 8.

I thought about something similar. I think it would have been a better shot if the glass had contained lemonade rather than a lemon in water, thus completing the phrase. A 4

.... put a slice on the rim and the rest in the glass?
