No clue what it is, but it's pretty interesting. The dark things on the right add a bit of mystery to it all.

The focus of this challenge was one of perspective -- and the lack of some kind of ground (not literally) here keeps me from understanding what I'm looking at.

The bolts really jumps out at me. It's great highlight on them.

Good shot. Almost looks abstract.

I'm a sucker for rusty machinery or big earth moving equipment.
05/01/2002 11:03:00 AM
Nice perspective. The sky seems a little too light though.

exremely strong composition here, on second re-visit, great texture and contrasts.

Nice shot. The sky is a little blown out though. Tough to do with the dark paddles.

Nice and industrial

I have to admit I don't know what this is...but the shapes are well-thought out, I think.

Fits the theme. Somehow i just dont like looking at rusty machines, or spare parts.

Cool shapes in an intersting composition, my weakness. I'm giving it a 10 although I'd love to see a little more color in the sky.

" Mechanically inclined"

The overexposed background is a bit distracting but it's an otherwise great photo.

Weird.. what 's the subject matter here?
04/29/2002 03:16:00 PM
Very interesting shot of the machinery. Did the background get blown out (over exposed) in the camera, or during post-processing? If it weren't quite so bright, this would have received those extra couple of points from me.

Interesting shot. The sky is a bit washed out.

I'm a sucker for anything that even smells of old-fashioned. Rust is a sure winner. I love this picture, and I love the way that it is framed, and I love the texture of it, and especially the coloring. Even a few little splotches of mold! Perfect. The "bowls" (I have no idea what this object is... some kind of dredging device, judging by the title) give a good sense of upward lift to the picture. I guess my only critiques are that the bowls seem too shadowed, and the grass to bleaches, especially in the lower portion of the photo. I know how difficult shooting in bright light, objects that are facing away from the sun is, so I won't dock you much for it, but perhaps that is an area where you could have really taken this challenge with ease. Otherwise, I still feel it is one of the strongest submissions in the field. Good job!

This is a cool photogrpah but the "ground up" concept isn't really pulling me in and 'speaking' to me.
04/29/2002 11:22:00 AM
Very nice, but I have a predisposition for old machinery.
04/29/2002 10:13:00 AM
nice pic

you will have to dredge this one out of the dpchallenge basement

think this would be great as a B&W, all the textures and shapes.
04/29/2002 07:54:00 AM
Interesting picture.

Looks like the contrast range in this photo was just too great for the time of day this was taken. The range from bright sunlight to dark metal was too much for this camera. Dawn or dusk might have been a better time to take this shot. Cool composition and very nice DOF though!!
