Challenge: Composite III (ARCHIVAL) (Extended Editing*)
Date: Jul 8, 2022

Thank you so much everyone. When I went to sleep last night it was over "8" ... would have been nice if it had stayed there ...

Still, very happy with the blue of course, and I am FINALLY managing to get some ribbons for "extended"/composites, which I love doing but never do well in DPC :-).

I shot the model during a model shoot for one of the camera clubs. It's the same guy who got me the blue in the B&W challenge :-)

I liked the stuff he was wearing, especially the double glasses, and thought I wanted to do something "Steampunky" with it. The next day, I went to buy Koi food and see this small scrap yard next to the feed store with all those pipes and "stuff" lying around ... it all just "clicked". When I asked the owner's permission to take pictures he wanted to know "what for" .... now try to explain photo composites to someone who at best uses his mobile phone for family pics :-).

The model was 1 shot, the "robot" is a composite of 9 different images. Most of them I used several times - like the "neck" is the same as those 2 "pipes" at the top of the head and you can also make the same thing out at the left "cheek". The curly yellowish pipe below and left of the eye reappears as the "border" of the left cheek and the end bits stick out next to the glasses on the left.
In total (I just counted) I had 57 layers in my "basic" construction. I really battled with the "gold" colour (I wanted a bit of a C-3PO "look" (that's the golden robot in Star Wars)). I then started fine tuning, mostly the colour but also the inside of the red eye with another 24 layers.
I am sure one could achieve this a bit more elegantly :-), but I seem "feel" my way through a composite.

Really splendid work. Congrats.

The hardest thing with so many layers is keeping track of where everything is.

Congratulations on the blue ribbon. How many exposures did you use to achieve this? Who is the model?

absolutely STUNNING Gaby .. this is such an amazing image .. and at a time when there's such a push to incorporate apps and i dont know the word for them .. into our human bodies .. then this is especially relevant ..
i really like that this .. from your title .. is taken from the perspective of the mechanical part of this 'creature' ..
sorry i dont know all the words .. and you'd think i would as i was an avid science fiction reader for many many years ..
anyway .. MANY CONGRATS on this wonderful composite ..
I LOVE IT . !! .. :)
