This phenomenon was caused by rocket engine exhaust from a SpaceX Transporter-7 mission that launched on the Falcon 9 about three hours earlier in California. Water vapor in the exhaust from the second stage engine freezes and catches high-altitude sunlight, effectively glowing and creating this spiral-galaxy-looking display of light. The payload is 51 satellites, and on its initial polar orbit, it did a pass-by over Alaska, stunning many night-watchers, including myself. ..Photograph taken outside of Trapper Creek, Alaska, USA.

Guess I should add that the green bands and the red are from the Northern Lights, which is what I was out to photograph.

I really wonder how well this is going to do...

This is amazing, both the actual "thing" and your image. Quite outerworldly

Stunning, the image and the phenomenon.

Absolutely not something you see every day.

A really significant image, in a documentary sense. And a visual treat too.
