The stairs lead to another platform. So they are not pointless :)

very annoying. what is the point of this art nouveau ascension?
eta: didn't mean to sound so negative: it is a fine photo; I totally miss the point of much of modern architecture, although one might similarly have missed the point of a lot of traditional church architecture. the question remains: where do the stairs lead?
