often when you take macro photos of insects you dont see the actual details until you see them on the computer ..
that was the case with this grasshopper .. that plate looking thing on the front of its face i've never seen before .. fascinating .. :)

i tried to find out what that body part was .. after a bit of searching i'm pretty sure its the labrum .. but i couldnt find any photos of the labrum extended like you can see in this photo ..

"The grasshopper has mandibulate mouthparts that are directed downward for biting and chewing the leaves of a host plant. Its labrum is a broad flap that serves as a front lip. Mandibles operate from side to side."

thankyou everyone for your comments .. xx

i did struggle with the crop ..
felt this worked better than any others i tried ..
i went with this centered composition even though i knew a centered composition can be unpopular .. :)

btw .. thats a thin blade of grass he/she is on .. it was the tiniest grasshopper .. xx

Amazing shot because of the droplets. So clean and beautiful. DonĂ¢€™t really have any suggestions. At first I thought a portrait crop, but I like the oof leading lines of the leaves to the left. Then I thought, place him more to the right, not centered, but I like it this way. So canĂ¢€™t think of anything to make it better. -9-

For some reason his expression and the droplets on his antennae really make me smile :-) Like he's embarrassed to be seen like this. Perfectly captured.
