i felt a lone surfer would go really well in a solo challenge .. so getting a shot of this fruit fly with its legs out .. almost like a body surfer just about to catch a wave .. was too cool not to enter ..

taken on the morning this challenge went in for voting ..
voting starts at 4pm here atm in australia with daylight savings etc ..

anyway .. good luck to my little fruit fly who i feel might be about to give birth judging by its swollen abdomen .. !! ..

Eggs
Female fruit flies lay 1/20 eggs in ripening or fermenting fruit and vegetables.

An egg clutch can range from several to 50 eggs and a single female can lay several hundred to 3000 eggs in their lifetime, depending on the species.

Larvae
The eggs hatch into larvae, also known as maggots, within 2/4 days. The maggots are eyeless and legless, and feed on the fruit from the inside.

Pupae
The maggots burrow out of the fruit and into the soil, where they transform into pupae. The pupae are oval-shaped, light to dark brown, and hard.

Adult flies
Immature flies emerge from the soil, leaving their pupal shell behind. Adult fruit flies become sexually active within two days of emerging.

Fruit flies can develop into adults within one to two weeks at room temperature. The egg and larval stages span approximately eight days, while the pupal stage lasts six days. The adult fruit fly lives for several weeks."
