Well, THAT was a fun exercise! LOL Figured my family would think I'd finally lost it if they saw this setup, so I'm in the storage shed setting this up. The plywood is about 3/4 of an inch too tall and is hitting the rafters. Finally get those wrangled into place. Then I'm using the Sony A7IV for the first time for legit (other than a few test shots chasing a few birds around the yard). I wanted to use the intervalometer. Thought I had the AF set correctly. After going thru a handful of poses I checked the camera. Gah. Blurry, but funny. :-) Anyway, finally figured it out.

Before the shot is even funnier (crazier?). I had the idea to use a mask for a portrait, based on one of the images I noticed in Irving Penn's portrait gallery. Looked for a tree bark piece I'd used before, then remembered I'd thrown it out while doing some tidying up. Dang it. So ... last night I put on a headlamp and went looking for a chunk of wood I could pull the bark off of (firewood stacks, areas of throwaways, etc. Do a lot of tree cutting around here). No luck. Did find a hollow log. Tried cutting the end of that off to use as a face frame. Gave up after three attempts (wood too fragile - kept breaking). Then I found this old stump. Hmm. A new hat! :-D Thought I was going to need some rope to hold it on, but it was light enough to balance (with some effort!).

That was fun.

This is really good, Barry. A tip of the (wood) hat to you.

Suitably funny and taken. Two hats, now what do you think of that! I think the frame is not necessary, but it doesn't really distract I guess.

The light and the expression on his face are maybe a bit too friendly for the style of Irving Penn, I am missing the dark mood, but a nice and different image anyway.
