 my friend Don who i've known for nearly 50 years had been taken to hospital ..

he'd had cancer and treatment and seemed to be going ok .. but a friend had found him unconscious at his home and he'd been rushed to hospital .. he'd contracted pneumonia .. which is when his daughter Kayla got in touch with me ..

but the doctors thought he'd be going home in the next few days ..

less than 24 hours later the they said he was now on palliative care and would not be with us for much longer .. a rollercoaster for his kids Kayla and Simon ..

i drove to the hospital hoping that i would get there before he died .. it takes an hour and half ..

when i arrived he was deeply sedated .. and close to going .. although he hung on for another day ..

his kids spent time with him when i was there at the hospital telling their father that they loved him and that it was ok for him to go ..

i was waiting in the hospital cafe with their uncle Alan while they were with their father ..

not knowing how long they would be there i told Alan that i was going to go out and take some photos for this challenge ..

i'd told him about my photography and he'd actually googled me .. which was nice as my family are very underwhelmed by my photos most of the time ..

i particularly love shadows and reflections .. so when i saw that guy on his phone .. just across the road from the hospital .. i positioned myself against the window and took some photos ..

Don passed the day after ..

Wow.. another great image and a well caught reflection. A top pick for me 9. I like the contrast because it brings the viewer into the image and respects the reflection.

Photographs create images that are imprinted in our minds for many reasons. After reading your story I'm sure you will always remember this image and how it came about and give you a pause for reflection. Sorry for the loss to you and the family.
