It's 23 degrees outside and my dog found this wasp in the house. Male wasps die when the weather gets cold. The queen wasp finds a warm place and goes into hibernation for the next year. This is a stacked image of 143 individual photos.

Not dead but I had cooled her down in the refrigerator to slow her down for the pictures!

Oh! And she also should shave her mustache and beard a bit while she has the time. :)

and congratulations on the 4th place .. :)

and thanks for the info on the wasps .. i'm always eager to find out more about our little friends in the insect/arachnid/etc world ..

and btw .. when i do a stack i submit all of them to the sc for validation .. but i dont think i've had more than 9 or 10 ..
i'm interested to know whether you'd have to submit all 143 or just a few for sc to get an idea .. ?? ..

and more questions .. lol .. what program do you use to stack .. ?? ..
i used to do everything manually up till only a few months ago .. then i found bracketing on my camera .. talk about a game changer .. :)

Hi Roz,
Thank you for your comment. I downloaded the images into Lightroom. I export the chosen images as a category to the desktop and then import them into Photoshop where there is a process for photostacking the jpegs using "Scripts-load files into stack then Edit-Auto Blend. The final image is then edited as desired. There are tutorials in You Tube on how to do this. I used an inexpensive photo rail for taking the images although there is an in camera setting for this I have not tried but plan to soon.
I submitted 5 of the stacked images (about 1 every 25 captures) for validation. I think SC can get what they need from this. I will wait to see if they need any more information.

thanks for all the information Larry .. so interesting ..
i've never used tripods or photo rails .. i honestly don't now how ppl do it when insects can fly away at the drop of a hat .. so hats off to you .. !! .. lol ..
i'll be checking this out when i next do a focus stack .. "Scripts-load files into stack then Edit-Auto Blend." ..
thanks again and have an excellent week .. :)
