Went tromping through the snow trying to find the perfect grave to shoot. This one seemed nice. Level and curve adjustments in PS plus cropping and sharpening.

Critique Club Review

Black and White is definetly the choice here. Very good exposure, the snow is not washed out, and the stone is very well rendered. I think you might want to consider a slightly shallower depth of field. A little softer focus on the distant graves would still give a sense of place, yet not compete for attention as they do just a bit here. As the picture appears now, it seems as if the stone is shot at an angle asking the viewer to look past it. The only other downside is that there is not a real telling of the subject, despair. All passing is with some sadness. Well except for Hitler maybe. But not all is with despair. Was this person cut down before life could be lived to the fullest, or was it an extremely elderly person who had lived a very full life, and now it seems for the best is allowed to pass on.

A model to pose as a mourner, could be very effective here.

Nice photo and an interesting crop. The choice to go balck and white was good, it brings out more impact.

Finally, a graveyard mise-en-scene that realy works for me. A clever play on words, too. This is a superb shot that, though it doesn't quite say "despair" to me, still says a lot.
