I am surprised that commenters missed the despair. Judging from the hijab, she is a Muslim woman, beautiful to be sure, and is, in many ways, a very second class citizen with little or no chance of breaking out of the mold, even in America. Sorry, political observation.
The photo itself, it wonderful. Great portrait of a stunning lady showing so much going on behind her beautiful eyes.

| This is an excelent self portrait. However, you look quite happy. Not in despair at all. The color is great, the focus and clarity are great, and the angle and framing/cropping are great. I just don't see how it falls into the despair category. Otherwise a very nice photo. Good luck in the challenge. |

| beautiful lady but she doesn't look in despair. The "times" will not always be the same so you can not expect everyone to relate and react to this photo. It may not represent the same thing to you as to someone else. The topic is despair and I can't give this good photo a high score. |

| This is a pretty picture and the small smile you have on your face shows no sign of "despair" In fact you look quite happy. I especially like the crop you have here, with the head in the top left hand corner of your image. But it doesn't meet the challenge at all as far as I see. |
