Taken at a castle , where this poor elephant had a tiny bit of concrete to stand on. Had visited this place a few years ago and it always stayed with me, how sad he looked, so decided to go back again for this challenge.

Nice capture portraying sadness.. Elephants are magnificant animals and the collapse of their culture is in the process of changing in the states.
They are being set free from captivity/Zoo's and being placed different environments in which they will thrive..They are social creatures w a great deal of emotions..
You know the saying "Elephants never Forget"? i think there's truth to that..

Fantastic choice for this challenge - I'd not have thought of it!

Greetings from the Critique Club

Does this meet the challenge? yes, I say yes! It definitely does. This is a very evocative image and you convey the depression this wild animal is feeling in captivity really well. I like the use of the black and white, and I also think you made the right choice in the composition and framing; I even like the border, which sometimes is detrimental to the photo, but not here. In my eyes, this is almost a perfect photo. I think the only reason it didn't do as well as it could have was because it is an animal shot. A lot of people don't realize that animals have feelings too, and maybe this is too subtle for the average user here.
Beautiful work, I'm sorry you didn't score higher!

Great shot. I love taking animal shots myself. I'm sure you saw my cheetah in the yellow challenge. I had a similar photo of an elephant from that day but it was through bars. Love it. 9

Terribly sad. I love the cropping you chose, focusing on this defeated, achingly depressed eye. Zoos are so fun and entertaining, aren't they?

I love this pic. it's great in B&W. Though elephants always seem to be sad, with the title, this image fits perfectly.. nice shot

Wonderful texture, and detail. I would like it if the deeper blacks were perhaps darker. It's hard to convey human emotions effectively to animals (I think it is anyway), but this shot does it well.

That's a very sad-looking eye! The crop is good, the choice of B&W works well, and it speaks volumes.

A sulking elephant. I like this image. The placement of the eye is great. Try experimenting with contrasts.

This looks like the elephant in the Hoogle Zoo here where I live. They are always sad there too. Great shot for the challenge.

good capture of the elephant looking down.. that adds to it's look of no hope.. not a bad shot for such a difficult creature to capture emotion with... great use of black and white also
