These old millwheels were cut by hand on the hillsides around the Amber Valley, in Derbyshire, England. They were then carted to the watermills along the River Derwent, one of the first areas of England to witness the Industrial Revolution. Today, many lie scattered across the hills, a legacy to an industrial age of machines before the arrival of electricity. This one lies near the village of Ambergate.

The image was taken with a Nikon D70, mounted on my aging Slik 88 tripod. I have made only a simple adjusment to levels, to even out the exposure.

Very unique...it doesn't get any for simple than that stone does it? I like the way you captured the "age" with all the growth around it. The image could be a little sharper though

Great medieval feel. I like the simple subject, the slope of the landscape, and the color saturation...nicely done. 8

That somebody found and shot a millstone, one of the more ancient mechanical devices, please me no end. The image itself is muddy and diffuse, to my eye.

The colors and the position of the wheel really make this a pleasant picture to look at. Good job.

This photo has a quality of mystery to it that I like. I wonder about where was it taken, what was the stone (looks like a millstone) used for, when was it used? Even the lousy weather helps set the mood. Great job.
