Could have centered the flower better in the cell of the chicken wire. Might have added to the interest of the image by spraying some water onto the wire (note the drop to the LL of the flower... if there were more of that, it might be a good thing). I hope for a 5.5...

Photoshop work: cropping; adjustment of levels to darken background; selective color and curves adjustments to enhance colors.

I've read some of the comments, and I fear I disagree about blurring the subject, mostly because the wire fence creates a lot of strong lines that lead the eye around and out of the photo. The splotch of blurred color doesn't have enough power to grab the viewer's attention. It needs detail to make it interesting, and you can't have detail when the subject is out of focus.

Desaturating the green may make the flower stand out better, but it still can't compete with the fence. I would have liked the suggestion of the fence (blurred) and the detail of the bloom.

Just my opinion, of course.

One of the few who chose to (imo) blur the subject. I like it. Nice job of framing. Good bokeh.

nice use of framing, composition, and bokeh! seems a little noisy, though.. I wonder what ISO you used..

A fascinating reversal of the norm here, with the visual center of interest out of focus and the wires sharp & clear. Borderline between bokeh and shallow DOF IMO.
