This is my first submission, so I look forward to seeing the feeback! This shot is of my version of an egg. Since I don't eat them, I don't have any chicken eggs in the fridge. I used an egg shaped candle that I have (with faux yolk and all!).

Congrats on your first entry!

COMPOSITION
I like the overall composition of this. It has a solid anchored feeling by placing the "egg" in the lower right hand corner, and gives the eye something to rest upon. It seems to be cropped a bit tight on the right and bottom, so I would recommend giving yourself a little more space on those two sides, just to give a little more room.

TECHNIQUE
Generally, (and unfortunately) pictures with soft focus historically do not do well for dpc. I do think, however, this shot would have been more effective with a sharp clear focus. Reading your comment below, I think you did the right thing by having the outer edge, and not the center, soft. It also seems a bit dark, to me. I would suggest using a tripod and slowing the shutter down to allow more light. Or lighting the candle!

OVERALL EFFECT
A great idea. You have met the challenge well, and in a creative fashion. Best to you in the future challenges. Have fun!!

The soft focus is due to the use of an extreme wide angle lens. There is one small area of pure focus, but with this fisheye lens, I either blur the edges or distort the middle.
I appreciated those who left kind constructive comments and look forward to submitting again.

NIftycolors, and the lined background accentuates the roundness of the eggs. I can't see a reason for it to be out of focus, though.

I really like the soft focus on this one. The only thing that would make it better is if it was bigger. You are allowed up to 640 X 640. Good Luck!

This is a great idea! The lighting is perfect, no hot spots anywhere. I would have liked the candle to be lit, but that is just a matter of taste. The blur on the top of the egg is fitting, in fact the whole photo has a nice softness to it.

Risky shot (soft focus, right?) I'll bet you're getting a lot of "focus" comments! It's well done, but I'm not certain about the background......7 Swash

i like the softness of this image.. the blur seems to give it a nice surreal fealing... sorta like early morning light before my eyes are working :) - setzler

Clever! A smidge soft... Not sure I see this as a soft focus type of object, but overall a very good photo. 8

The idea could have been really good, you could have made a statement, but its been let down by the execution.
