I'll probably get dinged for legibility... This was fun, although I wish I had more time to spend in fine-tuning it. I set the camera on bulb and my TC-80N3 remote timer on 90 seconds. After pushing the timer button with the 60-watt room light on, I waited 5 seconds before turning the room light off. This allowed the ambient light to come through.

Next, I walked over to the other side of my bed and began writing the words you see here, using a small penlight. My movement while writing enabled me to be invisible :-). For the last 20 seconds I illuminated my face with the penlight until the timer closed the shutter - just for added effect.

The tough part (for me...) was writing the letters backwards and creating separation between them. This was achieved by turning the penlight off after forming the letter, moving to the next postition (in the dark!), then turning the penlight on again to form the next letter.

I know this is child's play for many here, but it gave me a chance to try the technique, - and to now see how my peers (you!) think I did.

THIS IS SO COOL. I love it. I don't think my camera has those capabilities, but this is something fun to aspire to. Good job.

For those who asked... It took only 6 tries to get this "right" (...although that's a relative term :-)). I didn't begin producing the image until about 3 hours before the deadline. It was a pure experiment, with no illusions as to how it would be received. It certainly won't hang on anyone's wall! LOL It was just plain fun, ...but more practically, this gives me the confidence to use the technique in more "artsy" endeavours. Thanks for all your comments!!

I can't imaging how long it took rehursing this photo, but it turned out brillently! I love the face in the midground, that what tops it off. you better give a good detail how you accomplished this.

lol.. this is great.. I can't imagine the paitience trying to get *this* right.. The ghostly face is a nice touch. Was each letter done as a seperate layer?

Returning for comment.
While the painting with light has worked well it seems to be without any real purpose IMHO and leaves the photo without a focal point / subject. The clarity is good and the lighting great.

Despite a bland and unattractive scene this is actually quite effective (and tough to achieve in such bright conditions). Will probably be voted down though.

I would have done just the face... the words ruined it for me.

Liked the painting with light creation you did, including the smiling face. I know it's technically not easy. I do wonder if it would have been even more effective if you had used a less busy background. Everything is in good focus though (and I wish my bedroom looked that neat).
