1928 drawbridge over the 1750 "Kleine Oost Sluis" (small eastern lock). It is also the connection between the Kleine Oost and the Grote Oost (small east and great east). The old torn down Eastern Gate was on the location just in front of this. Unfortunately that beatiful building was torn down before people became aware of the historical value.
In 2001 the lock and bridge were renovated and I had the chance to walk on the bottom of the lock (quite deep). This is also a Dutch monument. There is a great chance that the 1928 iron bridge is a replacement for a similar wooden bridge. But as this is one of the main Hoorn entrances wood could not cope with the industrial revolution and the trucks that came along with that.

I chose this dark sky B&W conversion because in the color one the busy background draws too much attention away from the bridge. And I chose the dark sky conversion because it makes the white of the bridge stand out stronger.
I also have one without the tree on the right in it but somehow that one lacks depth. Depth is also the reason why I chose f8 to keep the houses in the bg sharp.

I walk around and photograph in Hoorn every month. It does not always yield good photos but you get to know the subjects and try different ideas every time. This bridge was also used for the original Bridge challenge. I had photos from several bridges in Hoorn. Some just didn't work with the small 640px wide format, they had too much landscape detail. This looked quite dramatic and it felt good the moment I looked at it from this angle so I chose this one.

Lens= Nikkor AF-S DX 18-70

Red +100, Green +100 and Blue -100. I used this technique before on my "Marken" photo in the B&W II challenge.

A wonderful black and white image. I can't wait for the end of the challenge to see how you got the lighting so good. Did you use a polariser?

excellent pic, very nice BUT I would have "cut" out the leftmost tree, kind of distracting

First impression: This looks like it would be better in full color. There's a lot going on here, and the bridge seems to get lost in B&W. I'd love to see the original.

Lovely. The black and white with deep shadows really gives this the peculiar feel of unreality... it's both appealing and a little disconcerting. The branches coming down really add to the slight unease, which is in strong contrast with the picturesque buildings. Very interesting image that is lots of fun to examine closely!
