the story behind the photograph: layne stayley (alice in chains) died of a heroin overdose recently, and was found on the floor of his apartment.. two weeks later. one can only imagine the stench. i practically dislocated my shoulder taking this shot. it was backlit with a lamp that was sitting on my computer chair. and yes. that's my computer on the right. i focused with the foor i think. i wanted it fuzzy and washed out.. ive done some drugs but i can only guess at what heroin must feel like.
> Looks like a Hitchcock angle...? i wish i was as cool as hitchcock.
apparently the only person that got the title right off the bat was ryan. |

Awesome photograph. I love the idea, and the bleached whites of the photo really pulls the effect off well. Good job. |

This had me wondering which way was up! Great composition, but I think a color photograph would have added to the mixed up feeling the composition seemed to be trying to convey. Great job overall though. |

The lack of focus on any specific object really adds to this... a photo that seems to tell a story all by itself - very impressive |

This photo started out in the middle of the pack with a 5 or 6 becasue it was a bit washed out.
As the week wore on I moved the photo up and up.
Originality, well photographed (needs a touch more contrast to the dop) moved this photo into my top 10. Nice job! |

I'm very curious to find out what YOUR version of the "story" is behind the shot and title. I know what I've come up with, but I'll be interested to see if they match. Technically, I think this is a little over-exposed. I think I would have darkened things up a little bit -- make the whites not quite so washed out and the blacks a little darker. HOWEVER, with my version of the story, even having it a little messed up exposure-wise works, so.... |

My son and I pondered this shot for twenty minutes (we couldn't figure out the position of the body). very well done. Would have liked more focus on the hand but realize it's hard to do when you're dead! |

I love this shot. Perhaps the most creative in the bunch. Very well done. |

I admit I can't quite figure this out. That's the floor in the upper left...and a hand on the floor..and some sort of couch/bed/futon, and a window, but what is that thing in the upper right? Maybe could benefit from a bit more contrast, and focus on the hand. I don't get the title, I apologize if I'm just dense... |

Black and white is a hard medium. It requires both black and white--not just a spectrum of grey. |
