 I saw this challenge, and had the extremely unoriginal idea that I would take a baby photograph (I figured there would be even more sunrises than babies, and right now I'm too busy to think of anything exciting :P).

But why stop at shooting a cliched subject (not to degrade, this beautiful and engaging 5 month old...to be honest, there is very little cliche about her) when you can go all out and imitate that overbearing portrait studio style. So that's what I set out to do. I really don't know the first thing about studio shooting, so I thought it would be fun to see if I could muster something appropriate. With that said, here is my best effort.

Lighting comes from a window (how's that for a fancy set up) background is a blanket.

Edit involved a big bump in contrast to bring out her eyes followed by an unhealthy dose of noise ninja to compensate for the harshness of the contrast increase and elevate the cliche factor, I'm well aware there's a couple of nasty artifacts going on with all the noise removal, but I couldn't seem to fix that without spot editing.

Hopefully this won't get too badly trashed.

Very cute! I think the lighting on the baby is good. The eyes are just incredible! I think the change in background colors is a bit distracting, I see at least 3 different colors between the foreground left, foreground right and background. Otherwise a great shot!

gorgeous baby. Amazing eyes. great focus levels, catchlights, etc. Only criticism is slight lack of ingenuity in relation to challnege subject.

This is awesome shot!! I love how sharp the image is...and i love how the blue sheet in the background brings out the babies GORGEOUS eyes...This shot is very nice and i hope you do well with it.

very photogenic baby, his eyes really sparkle, and his hair stands out from the background well, i would suggest cropping on the left a little, it was distracting for me.

I like this shot. Great expression, nice framing, really good light. For the most part, purple and blue work, but the blue reflection on the white skin has an eerie cast to it that's a little distracting.
