the expression on the statue is beatific. almost as if she's indifferent to the disfigurement .. which of course she is. for some reason i am reminded of the saying 'cut off the nose to spite the face'.
the most compelling attribute of this image to me is teh way the shadow wraps softly around the image, lovingly, and tenderly. it reinforces the idea, along with the statues expression, that death is something that holds you, and is not to be feared. good work! |
