well....in the end, not that it matters much, this shot was not blown out...it was shot using a IR filter and then inverted to get the animal the right color. The background and some of the features are tell tales of the shot not being blown out. I'm not angry about this, a shot should not need to be explained, so I take this "failure" as a learning experience.

Thanx for all the comments.

Oooooooooooo, the light, the light! Let me get my sunglasses! Sorry, I couldn't help myself. You are probably tired of hearing that. But the light, while brilliant like your pet I'm sure is a bit overpowering and really takes away from the animal itself. No detail in those areas. But I still like the overall compsition and feel of the shot so a 7 for you! ;)

The lighting in this shot is way too blown out, takes away all detail. sorry

looks like the light was blown way out on this...it may be my screen (I'm on a laptop)

This photo is just too blown out to be a good portrait. Keep on trying though

Over-expo. Would like to see the features in the dog's face

The bright highlights seem to muddle what could have been a nicely detailed image.

Maybe going on the the abstract side of the challenge I don't know? But I feel the over exposure is killing the shot somewhat, from what I can tell the DOF is pretty good yet spoilt by all the white reflections.

Pity about the overexposure, wonderful animal the Great Dane....

Light is too harsh on his head! Too bad, lost a lot of details on the pic!

Sorry this is just an overexposed picture.

Focus looks good and good depth of feild but highlights are so blown out you can hardly tell it's a dog.

This is my secong go-around =) - I am not too crazy about all of the over-exposure. But thinking this was intentional... I would have liked to see the photo cropped a little differently... the great dane's eyes are in the center of the photograph (eyes are normally the focus of portraits) so I would have centered the dog differently (rule of thirds).

looks a bit overexposed.

hard to see the subject for the harsh highlights - over exposed.

Toooo much contrast. The blown highlights are all you see when you look at this shot. Looks like a lovely pal though.
