Hi - I've read thru the comments on this photo and most of them are correct (IMO) on the lighting and distracting elements. One other consideration is the color of the animal, it seems paled out. Perhaps from the lighting. Sometimes color can be adjusted a bit with curves or saturation which could have helped some.
If this was your only available photo for entry and you just had to enter, then considering the rules for this were advanced you could have tried selecting the animal then blurring the heck out of everything else. Just a thought. ;^)
Smile and keep having fun! |

The fingers are out of focus and the pose is not very interesting |

Sweet, a little leopard Gecko! Very nice pets, I loved them when we had them at the pet store I used to work at.
But alas, this shot, as I'm sure you've heard needs some work. The flash is overkill on the lighting aspect and the set up needs lots more work. PUtting the gecko on a more solid backdrop, cloth or something similar, a color that would really bring out their colors and avoid the direct flash if possible. A full length shot would also be great, I love their fat little tails :) A 4 |

That looks like a big leopard gecko! While the focus on the lizard is great, the big blurry finger obstructing part of the head is a bit of a distraction... |

It would have been a far better photo without the hand/arm/watch. |

the watch. thumb and T shirt are all unfortunate distractions that detract from your otherwise interesting lizard. |

This is my second go-around =) - Cute! I just would have not positioned him on your hand like that. Your pinky finger it very distracting and takes away from your pet... along with your watch. The lighting also looks a little off... looks like you are using your camera's built in flash. If you do not have an off-camera or horseshoe flash, then use natural light from a window... will be more flattering. |

I love the subject, but it appears you gave no thought to composition or lighting. Surely there must have been a better way to display him/her. 3 |

Both the hand and the watch are very distracting to me, makes this image seem more of a snapshot than a portrait, just my opinion though. |

I had to mark this down for the finger, the arm and the t-shirt which all detract from the pet. Nice focus, but the flash lighting throws harsh shadows. 3. |
