Challenge: Upside Down (Classic Editing)
Camera: Olympus C-3030Z
Location: Bathroom
Date: May 6, 2002
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/10

I found this roach in my bathroom a few days after the exterminator had visited. I picked it up and put it on the table with a pair of tweasers and took some pictures using a macrolens. I also used a tripod and a remote to minimize camera shake. I used the wrong white balance setting on my camera so I had to try and correct the colors a bit in Photoshop. Only "Color Balance", "Levels", "Brightness/Saturation" were used.

I think you DOF needs to be more, or your point of focus needs to be more down the bug's thorax. Otherwise, it looks great.

This is the best way to view these nasty critters!

Did you get her to sign your model release?

This reminds me of the movie "Men in Black." I would have liked to have seen a little more of it in sharper focus, but I know that can be difficult with a macro shot. I hope this is a macro shot!!!!!!!!!

Awww... how sweet.. I'm glad you didn't go for the cliche' dog as a pet. What's his name???

I really hate it when people tell me my depth of field is too shallow since I can't control it, but I really wish his legs had been a little sharper. Didn't need to be sharp throughout, but they're really blurred.

I had a picture of a black widow eating a cockroach but my wife said that it was too disgusting to enter. I think she was right.

This has a poignant beauty to me. I'm sure lots of people have said things like 'eww', but they're missing the point :)

lordy lord but aint he the most disgusting critter you ever laid your eyes on?

i like the composition
don't like the bug
and focus looks good, right on his face
but too dark, so it loses detail for me

I wonder how this would look in B/W. You might be able to pull out more detail in the head that way, or with a slight positive gamma adjustment. Nice selective focus. Chopping the antennae was your call, and I can't really decide if I'd like it better with them included, so you get the benefit of the doubt.

out of focus

This is a cool upside down bug. A little more focus would possibly have provided a much cooler upside down bug!

I would have liked everything in focus

icky picture but the out of focus softens the ick. Looking aroud the ick, the compo is good.
