I went to the island to get some bird & sunrise photos, but it was too cloudy to see the sun. This bird was apparently curious about us! Zoom equivalent to 380mm, but he was often within flash range. While the background colors are dull, I like this photo because I've not seen one like it before.

Post processing - no cropping - Levels, saturation, unsharp mask, despeckle

Lovely picture. I like the look of motion on this heron and all the detail in the feathers.

this front view shows the bird's colors well, but it also requires a greater depth of field

One more reminder that dinosaurs are related to birds - what an odd neck - i have never seen a pisture of a heron from this angle - amazing capture

Great expression. It could be the re-sizing, but the neck appears to be a little soft. I'm not scoring down for that though. Great capture!

Interesting subject, but an awkward angle that doesn't really do the bird justice.

A large bird such as this needs a lot of room to stretch out; nevertheless, I wonder whether the shot might be better framed with some of the left cropped. I would be tempeted to apply a bit more unsharp mask to get strengthen the textural contrast between the foreground and background. The photo has much to commend it, but to me it feels very unfinished.

excellent work! this is one of those shots that are so easy to take for granted, until you try to do it yourself. the composition is fantastic and the capture is priceless. i really hope this isn't overlooked, and that others will take the time to appreciate this. good luck!
