Date Uploaded: Apr 17, 2005

Taken with the Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS and Canon 1.4x Extender II, from the top of the Empire State Building, looking down on lower midtown. People really do look like ants from that height, so I tried to capture a coupla shots to prove it, this one being the best.

The original was cropped, a little levels work, focus tweaked, and double bordered.

You have met the challenge very well with this composition. It was a very creative and ambitious photo. Although it does not show people faces, it does shows how people are part of the vastly larger social system.
The image also protrays the infrature structure that people must circumvent on a daily basis, especially in larger cities. I see people walking, in taxi, buses, bicycles, subway. The cropping was also a good idea, to focus on the middle portion of the image.

Technically, I would not have done anything differently. Some people do like to see close ups and some fail to see the message in this type of image. Lastly, I am sure that other people will directly relate to this type of photo, because they live it, on a daily basis.

Well done, success in future challenges, and keep up the good work.

This should have done much better. It was way more original than the "usual" portraits.

excellent shot, matt, deserved much better. my guess would be that it was just too 'impersonal' for most voters.

Very unique point of view.
The human ant effect. Crop works well in this kind of shot.

This is how I feel every weekday in Toronto. Nice work at capturing the hustle & bustle. I also like the long aspect ratio, it works well for this. [10]
