Gaviota = Spanish for Seagull

Saw the clouds turning colorful at my house and so I biked up the road, basically sprinted down the half a mile trail (the clouds had turned orange reddish), and ended up out of breath but happy on Crescent Beach. This was about 10 minutes later, and the clouds really lit up. =)

Editing: Rotate 90 CCW, Auto Contrast, Dodge(bottom)/Burn(top), Minor rotate horizon (yes the horizon it tilted a little tad to the right because the ocean slants down to the beach), hue/sat (master sat +13, reds sat up), color balance (magentas, reds), neat image, image size, usm.

Fabulous! The colours are fantastic, and I love the silohouette of the tress on the hill nad of the birds. The reflection is what makes the picture for me.

A very classy sunset. The bird adds life and interest to the shot and it's perfectly placed. The colours are beautiful. Perhaps a little less sky, but I'm not sure?

Bird takes the shot to another level, especially that little gull strut going on. Great entry. 10

Beauty is a subjective thing, I know. In my scoring and comments I'm trying to score based on NOT whether or not I would think a particular subject beautiful, but on whether the photographer has succeeded in creating a beautiful photo. I look for the elements of color, lines, focus and dof interest, lighting, and a certain element of grace and lovlieness. I'm looking for a unique and creative appeal for the highest scorers. The description says to create a photo that makes the viewer think "that's beautiful", so it will undoubtedly be very subjective. (This is what I'm putting at the start of all of my comments, and I hope it is helpful.)

That being said, this has a lot going for it. Wonderful composition IMO, with the hills, reflections, bird on the beach and lots of sky. The colors really make this scene. Not perhaps the most creative or unique photo for beauty, but I think it's very well done.

The glassy looking beach with the bird really make this colorful sunset. Good job.

I like this very much- perhaps even more if it were softer (just my taste)

If you GOT to shoot a sunset, may as well shoot this one :-) I'm basically ignoring *just another sunset* shots, but this one's so pure I have to score it top tier; it's *more* than a sunset. Extraordinary reflections, fine spacing of the birds on the diagonal. Shot feels a little leaning-to-the-right to me, though... Nice work!

Zoomdak. Actually maybe not? Gaviota is in Cali. :) Good shot anyway, even if it's not a zoomdak. Love the position of the gull. Good technically and aesthetically.
