I did not use a flash for this shot, so it involved "Cheeko" being very patient with me. He had to remain very still, but obliged without question.

To achieve this picture, I simply set up a black card behind the cage. I had the cage next to the window with natural light entering from an overcast day. I then set up a small halogen desk lamp on the window sill and pointed at the subject, (who enjoyed the warmth on a cold winter day). I then let him walk about on the top of his cage while I shot away. Very slow shutter speed meant a lot of my shots were blurred, but I wanted to capture as much of his natural colour as possible.

Post editing simply involved sharpning and then saving for web.

I voted this image a 6 in the challenge. With a larger DOF, it probably would have gotten an 8 or 9. The only part in tack sharp focus is the feathers beside and below the beak. I did think it had an excellent POV, good lighting and good saturation for what its worth...

Pretty bird. Shallow DOF here does not work for me, The blur on the left distracts me with the solid background..

Excellent choice in birds. Nice colors reat DoF and very crisp and sharp focus. I really like the directional lighting. Well done and good luck in this challenge. <10>
