OMG - this one had me laughing so hard!!
Guess I have a twisted outlook on life, as I love sillyness like this.
Forget all the National Geographic images - this is great. Scrolled up just now and busted up laughing again.
Thanks for a new favorite and the guts to enter this one. |

Great use of color, and very humorous! Not really a bird, but perhaps close enough... |

I am giving a 6 if only because you managed to get a cat to wear that rediculous costume! How cruel! Or is he pretending like wily e coyote? Colors work well but technically not a bird. Lighting a little harsh. Good luck in the challenge! |

If you were going to shoot a cat for the bird challenge - maybe a yellow feather or feathers sticking out of the cat's mouth and title it "Where's Tweety?" ;-)
Interesting photo - cute and well executed, but have to ding ya for the challenge topic a little. I'm sure you had fun doing it though. :) |

In my opinion, this doesn't meet the spirit of the challenge. |

Can't decide whether to give bonus points for a creative take on the challenge or subtract points for wimping out and not shooting a real bird. I'll vote it somewhere in the middle... |

Nice colors, cute idea, but doesn't meet the challange for scoring purposes. |

Very cool photo. Unfortunately though, I promised myself that I would stick to the letter of the challenge (which states there must be at least one bird in the shot). I'm sticking to my scoring rules & curve, but instead of a 1 I did give this the highest mark I could without meeting the challenge (3). Like I said, I LOVE the shot, so it pains me to do it, but I do my best to remain consistent and unbiased in my scoring. (You got amazing detail on the cat & I love the beak & background feathers! - very cool!) |

Cute, nice bit of comic relief amongst a lot of serious bird photos. "Disclaimer" no animals were injured during the making of this photo. |

Interesting idea. May or may not take some hits for not actually being a bird, but I like the colors and contrasts in this shot. |

Lordy, lordy. Way too funny but so appropriate for the site! But incognito? Isn't it a catbird sitting in the catbird seat?! The very best of luck. |

LOL What a good cat that would let you do all this to him. I like this. Good luck. |

Ok. I have to vote on this or it's going to keep coming back over and over and over again....and it was really only funny the first time.
Obviously a "captive" species, you cold have perhaps controlled the light a bit better. The double reflections in the eyes give the subject a startled look. Perhaps a little cloning to remove the distraction? The pupils could have been darkened too.
Good detail on the forehead, but as the beak and foreground feathers are slightly out of focus (or soft) increasing depth of field may have enhanced the detail. Difficult to shoot monochromatic feathers with a contrasting, but also monochromatic, fur and retain detail. Not bad for what must have been a hasty attempt.
Theatrically speaking, perhaps you were going for the appeal of an owl-like bird. However, it seems you might have been more successful, on the whole (imo), had you obscured the ears as they are not a prominent feature of avian species.
I understand that this particular type of bird can have rather sharp talons....I sincerly hope you didn't find ou the hard way . . . . :) |

The color combination is striking, the cat beautiful and in focus.
However, I am one of those "in the box" people who welcome and respect challenge descriptions, and I'm afraid I can not accept this as a photo where the "bird is the main subject". |
