Realized today how difficult it is to capture bird photos without a super-zoom lens... don't expect this to do well at all, but haven't entered many challenges recently and I miss it....

From Critique Club

I find the overall image a bit small. It is difficult to capture birds at times. And you have to work hard at it.

I love the pose....very nicely captured. I find the contrast a bit on the weak side. But with a black almost colorless bird it is hard to boost anything up.

The noise in the blackness detracts and makes the soft focus appear worse. The background is fine but would have been a bit better to have gotten it on a smooth more eye appealing texture.

I think you are on the right track and with help the image coul dhave been better.

what a scary looking bird! a bit more focus would have scored it higher though

great capture. I think this could be improved with a lower point of view and a little better focus. I know you only have a split second to react, but for next time. :) Love the expression on his face.

thisi is a snapshot which could be improved by going down to bird level and using the flash to get detail in the bird .

Cool, bird looks like it is mad at you.

Lack of detail in the shadows which is unfortunate given that this includes the main subject, doesn't seem sharp, uninspiring background.

Caption says it all. Sorry I just didn't think this is a very good picture. Bird is too dark to see any detail, busy background is very distracting also.

Very dark, noisy...

Very emotive shot! The clarity of detail could be a little more precise in my opinion. The black of the bird looks a little hazy, so perhaps some Level adjustment might help. I like the composition and I'm amazed at the capture of this emotion on a bird! Really like that :-)

I love the title and the capture. But seems to be alot of noise and very little detail. I gave it a 6.

The size is small and the quality isn't great but I love it!!
