Can you please share with me how you were able to take this moon image with just a Nikon 990? I estimate the magnification at about x60, how was this achieved? I would like to learn.

too bad this is RGB and not black and white

Cool. Telescope attachment for your camera? The focus is undeniably where it needs to be -- on the craters on the horizon -- but the rest seems a little blurry. I wonder if that's an optical illusion. (Just talking aloud, has no bearing on your score.) You could have removed that band of yellow that follows the edge by completely desaturating to a pure B&W and then bringing a little bit more color in by colorizing and adjusting hue and saturation until you got the tint you wanted. (All if you have PS of course -- in another program, not entirely sure how you'd do it.)

The distortion is interesting. Not really B/W, though.
06/08/2002 02:16:00 PM
I am very curious...What is it?
06/07/2002 03:43:00 PM
It's probably me, but I see a reddish/brown cast on the moon. (Just me being a nit.....) Except for the color (or my eyes) this is an excellent job! You must have 12x or greater zoom! (How long was your exposure time, I have been experimenting with moon shots, your's is much better!!!)
Photo 10 Creativity 8 B&W 9 (I am certain the color thing is my monitor or my eyes) total 9

Right on, thats a big moon. Nice shot, what is that about 1200mm?
06/06/2002 08:09:00 PM
Of course I happen to like moon shots, but this is great. You must have a real nice telescope.
06/06/2002 11:19:00 AM
Wow, that's really big. Which planet is this taken from?
06/05/2002 03:38:00 PM
good detail just left of centre - presume loss of sharpness is due to equipment used - slightly off-plane

Well, I think that this is a good photo, but I'm having a problem believing that it is a legitimate entry. Either this is a picture of a picture or you have an incredibly huge tele-photo lens. I can think of one other possibility, but that seems a little far-fetched. I'll be interested to see your explanation. Meanwhile, I'll vote on its merits.

great moon shot, mine never come out that good.

Great day in the morning! I bet you can get some wicked pictures of that solar eclipse coming up June 10th!! If I could change something it would be to make it more defined, but getting this close is a feat in itself!! Great job.

Greenish yellow highlights on a black and white picture shouldn't be allowed. But I'd be interested to hear what kind of lens you used to get this close up to the moom with such detail.
06/04/2002 09:41:00 AM
The greenish saturation on the bottom left of the moon is very visible and defeats the purpose of black and white. I think you needed to convert it to grayscale once you shot it.
06/04/2002 03:29:00 AM
Awesome! It seems to have some colour in it though. I love the way those craters show up in relief along the edge.

Nice - my "moon shots" are always just a blob of light. You might be interested in the info on photographing the upcoming solar eclipse (see links in the forums) from NASA.

hmmm... this photo doesnt look like it was converted to b&w. either way, i like it.
06/03/2002 07:31:00 PM
How did you get that digital image? I like to have that range.
06/03/2002 05:43:00 PM
I think the moon should be brighter. It feels unbalanced
06/03/2002 05:24:00 PM
Neat b&w, cute title.
06/03/2002 05:20:00 PM
I've got to ask... how did you get this shot?
06/03/2002 03:28:00 PM
oops... a hot pixel
06/03/2002 03:19:00 PM
Wow, I want the zoom on that camera. Nice shot. Perhaps a bit too much dead space to the left, but I do like the idea of the cropping here. Good shot.
06/03/2002 01:55:00 PM
I would call that a color image
nice detail, but color
06/03/2002 12:09:00 PM
Nice. A little more focus would have helped.
06/03/2002 11:58:00 AM
interesting photo... is this black and white? i see some elements of color around the left edges of the moon... anyway.... good photo!
06/03/2002 08:35:00 AM
Love it. very nice close up!
06/03/2002 06:10:00 AM
WOW - what a cool photo.
06/03/2002 05:38:00 AM
fantastic...
what zoom was on your camera??
06/03/2002 03:55:00 AM
Exactly what camera are using to get you to the moon so close?
