 A slice of kiwi on a lightbox. Guess what I did with the kiwi though? I took it to my bathroom, got out my Gillette Mach 3 razor, and shaved the kiwi. The hairs were patchy and really annoying in the shot, so they had to go. I think I need a new blade now though. :)

The red background is a red gel placed over part of the lightbox. I had to build a paper funnel to block off the red light from reaching the kiwi, to prevent redness from showing through. That is my biggest gripe about my Limon Fresh image, that it looks orange in places where the red shows through.

Shot with my brand new Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8D lens. I used my light box that I built from a Rubbermaid tub and eight CFLs.

Camera on 5 sec self-timer, on Manfrotto tripod w/ Manfrotto ball head.

Processing:

- NEF conversion with UFRaw (CVS) in the GIMP 2.3.1
- touched up a couple of stray hairs and specs with the clone and smudge tools
- slight color adjustment on the green area to reduce the red component
- spaced to 640px wide
- duplicate layer, gaussian blur r35, mode overlay, slight curves adjustment on this layer
- local contrast enhancement on base layer (usm r43/a0.19)
- saved as JPEG

A touch oversaturated, maybe? It's always a little risky saturating to that extent. Regardless, this is a good take on a DPC classic and I think you've executed this pretty nicely. Good job, 8

Too much saturation and contrast. Look a bit like a drwaing. Good composition and capture but way too heavy on post processing.
