A Male Rubythroat hummingbird. Used Canon EF 75-300 with flash. Aperature 11, Speed 1/250 sec, iso 400. Subject about 5 feet from the camera. This shot was taken at sundown. Pre-focused, without a tripod and waited for this beauty to arrive.
I consider taking pictures of hummingbirds my greatest challenge in photography. I tried 3 different lenses at different distances, times of day, and lighting conditions. I have spent literally hours standing as still as I could waiting for the best shot. I consider this one one of the best I have taken. Hope you like it.

I don't think I have ever seen a hummingbird on a black background like this. Looks like a flash capture at night. Great details.

Beautifully captured though the all black background feels kind of strange - don't they feed only in the day? Still, a beautiful shot and that effortless flight does convey independence to me. 8

Wow beautiful shot. Not too sure how it fits the catagory of Independence, maybe I am just being shortsighted LOL.

Awesome pic, but how does it relate to the challenge. I think with any challenge that has no descriptive rules, the title becomes much more important to establish a link. I'd like to rate this higher than I did because it is an awesome photo, I just don't see the link to the challenge.

the black background is nice. i don't understand the connection to the challenge, but it's a pretty abstract topic.

Beautiful BEAUTIFUL photo!!! Those birds are so hard to capture since they rarely sit still long enoughto get them. I love the black background.

I'm amazed at the stop action. It is so clear and the composition with your excellent use of negative space is captivating. Just lovely
