I really like how you made day look like night. Probably not your intention, but I keep looking for the moon... (go figure, you know me).
*giggle*
If I'd seen this in a challenge, I would have given you a 7+ |

Hi Mavrik - your CC moment
I'm not sure I have all that much to say, really. I think you probably caught exactly what you wanted to catch. The colour's good, the light is excellent - I'd prehaps have a little ponder on the focus - that line of trees doesn't quite seem sharp, but perhaps if you got that the relections wouldn't have been so precise.
I'd guess it didn't score better because of there being no obvious point of interest (and the word obvious is important here). Seems plain that the 'point' is the serenity of the view, and the light coming off the water, I would guess that a lot of people would be looking for something more definite - at least a boat, or some people, or something.
You could maybe have achieved something like that by getting lower, closer to the water - so that the foreground water was more foreground, if you see what I mean.
Also, it prehaps doesn't fully meet the challenge for some people: not immediately striking enough, not a famous view, not a famouus landmark or whatever - those are my guesses as to why it ended up at 5.2.
Good work, I like it.

I'm surprised this didn't do better. Hmm. Well I like it! It looks like many folks wanted more land in the shot, but I happen to feel that water can be, and here is, just as interesting and engaging. Great shot Mav!
One thing about your photography, Mavrik--I never know what to expect from you! You're delightfully all over the place! Now THAT's exploration! |

I like the way this picture feels. like floating quitely on a lake, near the end of a summer day. Its blues and a bit dark, but it still retains a warm feel to it. Possibly lacking some sort of point of "interest" along the tree line, but still a good shot! |

Very pretty sun-stipples, but there's no point to this photograph, really. The water is the most interesting, and the most central-in-the-composition, thing, but one can only look at it for so long without blinking at the featureless silhouetted shoreline and the blank blue sky and wondering why one bothered to take the picture.
Gah. That sounds harsher than I meant it to; I'm just trying ot talk through reactions here to give a good idea why I scored it down. It's a vaguely postcardy kind of scene in general, so points for that, but as an image there really isn't any purpose, or anything to look at in it. |

Nice blue color but seems to be lacking a strong focal point also I'm not sure the portrait layout helps this shot. Love that blue sky anyway. |

Looks very inviting there. The sun light off the water gives this image a dreamy hoilday kind of effect. Shooting against the sun has darkened the whole photo somewhat but I don't think that is negative at all. If you hadn't mentioned that this is New York I would never have guessed it! Well done. |

Composition is wonderful with the emphasis on the peaceful water. I really do wish I were there. |

This image has a nice calm feel to it. I like the use of light on the waves. It almost has a nighttime feel to it. Your blues are deep and true. The use of thirds is good, not that it's a rule, but for this presentation, having the horizon higher works nicely. Your horizon, however, doesn't have enough detail or light to draw in the interest of the viewer. It is a dark line breaking up the two shades of blue from the sky and the water.
For this image I would probably adjusted the levels some to bring out some of the details in the treeline. That, or find an area on the lake that has an interesting foreground element that would catch the viewers attention. This dark shot can work, with the proper foreground it just needs to be interesting enough to work with the sparkles on the water.
Your layout of words on the left and thin black border work nicely.

I think this is a good attempt at a postcard, but I think that the picture would be better not taken agains the sun. The colour of the sky is beautiful. |

Not sure what we are looking at here. > Moonlight on the water? We should see the moon otherwise it's just light on water. |
