Mike,
I checked out your site. The all your gallery would be contenders for some 1st place in some of our challenges we just completed. Its a shame you didn't enter those pictures as well.

Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments and generous votes.
I shot this scene handheld with a single 100w light source from above with a cone of white paper around the bulb housing to allow for focusing of light on the subject without illuminating my black background. There were so many interesting sections of this ashtray, I found that floating around it snapping off shots from about 8" away with my Sigma 28-70mm 2.8 set to around 60mm allowed me to capture more of what the scene had to offer as opposed to shooting a staged tripod set up.

| Exposurewise this is good. For composition I think you could lose the dark bottom right corner (crop at the right) and you would gain a lot more impact (but maybe I'm missing something). |
