Challenge: Room (Advanced Editing IV)
Collection: Challenge Entries
Camera: Canon PowerShot S40
Location: Sloane Square Underground Station, London, UK
Date: Jul 29, 2005
Aperture: f/2.8
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/40th sec
Galleries: Black and White, Transportation
Date Uploaded: Jul 29, 2005

When we think of 'room', we either gravitate to thinking about a section of a building, or a concept of open/available space. This is the negative of the latter, and is a common sight on the Tube these days... especially at rushhour!

The original was cropped, focused, desaturated, bit of levels & contrast, burnt the highlights on the central man a bit, and double bordered.

FYI, this wasn't a very crowded tube train by London rushhour standards - you could fit at least 3 more people in this doorway, and if they pushed everyone back, another 4-5 possibly. Of course, we're not quite as crammed in as those in Japan etc, but we get close at times ;o) I had to wait for 2-3 trains to come by before a crowded one came by, by which point the battery on my little S40 was getting a bit low, so I waited til everyone from my station had boarded, then shot this just before the doors closed - and I wasn't too discreet about it either, hence all the people looking at me & my camera!

Thanks for all the comments folks, and all the generous votes!

Great shot! I love the mix of people and how half of them are trying to figure out why you're taking a picture of them!

Not to be crude but my money is on the guy in the middle as the one who delt it. ;) At least once the doors close that is. Great shot, 8.

Gotta love the expression on his face, but Westerners sure are soft when it comes to "full". Daily fact of life in Asia is probably twice that full. There's always room for one more.
