How? Why? This gentleman has been living on the stoop of our apartment building recently. He follows a long line of others that have used the stoop to sleep on at night or day.

Post: Layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast. USM. Crop. Resize. USM.

I had processed this prior to using it in the challenge. The editing was outside of the basic rules for the challenge.

This belonged in the top 20: it was moving and heartbreaking perhaps that's why...something like this is difficult to even comprehend happening to humans and is very emotionally disturbing..thank you for this image.

I found myself trying to think what your subject might be thinking about. His feelings, thoughts, emotions can be seen in his eye(s) and his body. Stiring. Nice capture.

A very poignant photo... just glad it represents a small sector of like in 2005... now in 2025....??? (8)

Excellent capture and composition. One fault I see is this image doesn't relate as strong as some of the othersin this challenge to the title. For example, this could be a homeless person in 1984, 1973 or ... That said, I'm not marking down for that. (7)

I'm having difficultiies commenting on this image because it stirs up too much emotion and guilt. The image quality is the best under the circumstances and the most meaningful in b/w. You are brave to post such an image, something I also tend to do and get thrashed for, oh well..

At first glance this picture is disturbingly moving. Congratulations on evoking an emotion in someone you will never meet. Although I wouldn't hang this picture on my wall, it is a powerful commentary on our socitey and it's helpless.

I'm curious to find out if all the things going on in this were intended.

Great shot. Would have liked a little more background info to finish the scene (for informing future generations). Not sure of the significance of the scene. Aging? BOL

Striking photo but what's the 2005 reference?

this does not specifically evoke modern times to me. this condition has existed since the dawn of mankind, not just in modern times.

What a great, disturbing image. A lovely B&W. That light in his eye makes me want to cry. 10

Striking photo, though one could argue this was far more common in past years.

The problem of the homeless is definitely a situation present in 2005, but it was also present for many many years before that. I see the fit to the challenge, but it is not something that gets me thinking specifically about 2005. The photo itself is okay. The B&W is nice, but the centre psotioning of the man is a bit static. Also, the bright spot on the bottom left of the photo is very distracting.

is that a death date, or what. Great portrait of an older gentleman though.

The only thing that bothers me about this shot is the blown out lower left corner. Otherwise, I think it perfectly meets the challenge for the year 2005. Very insightful, creative, and emotive. Great job. 9
