Wish I could figure out how to make the flute more silver without washing out the skin, too.

This is my entry in the 2006 county & state fairs in the "People-posed" category. It finished first in the category at the county fair.

Nice shot! I like the look of the gold, but if you wanted to try to make it more silver you could try this:
1. Make a duplicate layer.
2. Apply a deep blue photo filter to the layer (Image;Adjustments;Photo Filters. Adjust to the desired opacity (Around 40% makes it silvery)
3. Click on the layer mask at the bottom of the layers palette.
4. Select the brush tool, with black as your foreground color,make sure your opacity for the brush is 100%,(make sure to click on the little mask icon that is to the right of the duplicate layer icon to make sure it is selected), and begin to paint over her face, and you will see the warm tones come back to her skin. If you happen to paint over the flute, just switch the foreground color to white, and paint over the mistake- it will bring back the blue color filter.

Something to try anyway, you may find it useful.

In response to your comment above, I think the gold is perfect. I had rated you a ribbon for this clean, expressive image. In fact, I had rated it above my own flute entry. (Coincidence that the two flutes in the competition were submitted by Larry's?)

Beautiful shot with shallow dof. Nice lighting. Doesn't give me much of a sense of 'Live Music' though.

Ah...one of the few close-ups of an instrument I like - why?

cause hands on guitars and pianos leave too much anonymity, but lips and a face is much more personal
