This had such the promise, but the background really distracts from the image. IT wouldne be so bad with jsut the wood, but the ground/wood combination really failes. Black and white si about contrast -- try this shot again with a darker background (like ALL ground in the abckground).

great contrast of 'old and new' Need to see more of the younger skin to really be effective, and the lighting/ contrast/ exposure needs some work. Could be great.

ordinary

More contrast would have made this a good image!

The low contrast works here, IMO, although I wouldn't mind the blacks just a touch denser and a positive gamma adjustment to bring more area into the lighter range. The one dark area at LL is a little jarring, as the rest of the image is all on one plane. Not a big deal, just though I'd mention it. Good work.

stunningly captured

Hmm... I think the low contrast works in this photo, making the skin seem softer and more delicate than it would have.

there's something about this photo that makes it difficult to stop looking at it. a good concept and shot very well

Nice idea, but something's not right in the lighting or the exposure.

Wow. The texture of the grandmother's hands is incredible. Great contrast.

Excellent composition here... The only improvement I could possibly suggest would be to have this on a darker background that would offer a little more contrast between the background and the hands... nice work!

good lighting, better of the hands shots this week. it's grandma's nails that I don't like. Perhaps treating her to a manicure then comparing the grandchilds hand to hers, to see the comparisons would help - just a suggestion. good job.

You captured the texture of this very well. I different background might have made that stand out a little, but overall a very well done photograph.

Neat texture. I'd have liked to see more of the child's hand to give it more of a contrast between them, though.
06/04/2002 11:08:00 PM
Needs contrast adjusted more.

very well done-------10

wonderful detail in the hands. if the top two fingers would be closed down on the others it would really complete the feeling.

Been done before and done better. Would have liked to see more of the younger person's hands. But not a bad shot.

My monitor doesn't show a "pure" black/white point, but I don't think it matters for this image...
06/03/2002 10:48:00 PM
There is nothing more wonderful than an old person's hands. I guess it is because they mirror all the love and work of a lifetime. Great job on the photo and well framed.
06/03/2002 05:57:00 PM
Very nice... makes me think of my grandma.
06/03/2002 04:20:00 PM
I like the position, but feel somewhat uncomfortable with the washed out look, especially on the youthful hand, which I think should have more texture and contrast. Of course, that's just my opinion. Overall, good job.
06/03/2002 03:36:00 PM
This isn't much contrast here.
06/03/2002 03:30:00 PM
Moving photo, done VERY well. Super tones. Bravo! Congrats to you!!

I generally have this really stupid prejudice against pictures of hands. I think it is a tough subject to do well. However, the execution here as well as the subject are amazing. This is a commendable effort. Great job!

Too much going on here I think. Would have prefered just seeing the grandmother's hands.
06/03/2002 08:39:00 AM
What a sweet photo. This would be so nice if done in grandmoms lap. I love a moving photo and this is so well done.
06/03/2002 06:14:00 AM
I love this picture because it gives me a sense of warmth. Also makes you think of the life those hands have had.....A well deserved 10!!
06/03/2002 05:59:00 AM
Excellent idea. Needs a bit more contrast
06/03/2002 03:46:00 AM
Touching~~
