Surely a nice capture considering how fast and often these things must move! I've tried photographing live insects with wings.. and it's DEFINITELY not easy.. and to have to watch out for gators too! I would've probably turned around and looked for something else.. ;)
Anyway, on to th e photograph. I think the selective desaturation on the lilypad looks a bit odd, and am wondering if that has anything to do with the patchiness in the bottom left corner? Since this is an advanced editing challenge, I would've considered cloning that patchiness up so that it matched well with the rest of the water. With the lilypad, perhaps a slight desaturation (or change in lightness?) would've worked better.
The detail on the dragonfly is certainly good, so you did well there.
A nice shot either way, but just some food for thought above. :) |

Excellent shot though I'm not sure how I feel about the desaturated lilypad. Allother elements arevery strong. I hope you do well. Good luck! |

I wish that you hadn't desaturated the lily pad. The colors on the dragonfly look a little washed out. |

Has a couple of distracting elements that probably couldn't be helped. Really good capture though. |

I think I like the selective desat, but the blue water at the bottom of the image ruins it for me... Makes it look too artificial. |

Very crisp. I would like to see this without the desat. of the lilly. The white pad looks unnatural. Very crisp insect though. |

great close up of this brilliant insect, is this a partial de-sat or a colour shift....just looks a bit odd? |

Excellent dragonfly detail, nice back and wings; but what happened to the lily pad, looks more like a lunar landing on a wasted planet. Where's the green that would have complimented the dragonfly color ?? |

I think it may have looked better in full color, but I do like the blue in the dragonfly

I like the dragonfly but I have a desire to 'see' the green in the lilypad. |

The right top hand corner is a little distracting. Maybe a different crop would of been more appealing to me. However, nice colors and detail. |

Great capture, One of the few shots I believe would be better in full saturated color. Just my opinion..... |

with the lillypad in gray you dont' really get a feel for what it is. It looks like mud. I think I would like it better if it were green. |

I want the leaf to be green, but i guess thats hard on the blue-green dragonfly. |

was the desat performed to allow us to see the dragonfly easier?? I don't like it here, but the picture and idea is first rate. |

The gray of the desat makes the lilypad almost like a sheet of metal! The blue of the body is a nice compliment to the gray scale of the shot. Great detail and focus. Great macro. |
